This beautiful Early 20th Century meerschaum pipe is a real attention grabber, carved in the shape of a decidedly Edwardian lady, complete with a rather large hat perched atop a pile of Gibson Girl hair.
A similarly large bow tied under her chin balances the look, while the sweet, contented expression on the lady’s face speaks of many hours of peaceful smoking for the gentleman lucky enough to call her his own.
The shank band is marked “W.H” for William Harrison, a Pipe Mounter active in Birmingham, England between 1906 – 1912. The band is Sterling Silver, assayed in 1911.
The Lady has been cleaned, restored and freshly waxed to bring out the best of the meerschaum colouring. Repairs were made to the stem, including a break in the Bakelite just above the end of the threaded tenon. The original bone fitment was quite worn and was replaced by a new shop-made tenon of threaded Delrin.
Pipe measures approximately 5-1/2″ long by just under 3″ tall. Chamber bore is 3/4″ in diameter by approximately 1-3/8″ deep.
